PH leaps to 57th place in Nikkei’s COVID-19 recovery index

The Philippines significantly improved its ranking in Nikkei Asia’s International COVID-19 Recovery Index, jumping to the 57th spot out of 120 countries. This is 46 notches higher compared to the country’s 103rd ranking last October.
The Philippines shares the 57th spot with Tajikistan, Norway, and Malaysia with a score of 53.5.
In a statement, Nikkei Asia said that this upgrade is mainly due to a notable increase in the country’s “infection management scores.”
However, while the Philippine’s total infection dropped, its short-term case fatality rate is still the second highest in the world at nine per cent.
The index was completed based on the infection control, vaccination, and mobility of every country amid the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Bahrain topped with a total score of 73 and Laos is in the last spot with 22.5
Nikkei Asia’s report is almost the complete opposite of Bloomberg’s November COVID Resilience Ranking which put the Philippines in last place among 53 countries.
