SpaceDC to invest $700-M for PH data center
Data center provider SpaceDC is looking to invest over $700 million in its planned 72-megawatt (MW) hyperscale data center serving the Greater Manila region in the Philippines.
The Singapore-based firm recently announced that it is working with global real estate services firm JLL to build a data center called MNL1, which will be situated in Cainta, Rizal.
In an interview with BusinessWorld, SpaceDC Chief Executive Officer Darren Hawkins said that the Philippines is a “dramatically underserved market” despite ranking second in terms of data center growth in Southeast Asia.
He stated that they “are excited to be a first mover in a new market where we see our customers are investing heavily in.”
The data center, which will run on renewable energy, is slated to open this year.
On why SpaceDC chose to build its facility in Cainta, Hawkins said that this decision is well placed “to avoid any of these types of natural disasters.”
Hawkins added that they are also planning to expand throughout Broader Asia — specifically to India, Japan and Australia.
