“Burnout” to become the next pandemic — Adecco CEO

“Burnout” — a combined state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion — could be the next pandemic if full-time remote work continues, according to Alain Dehaze, CEO of personal service provider Adecco.
In an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt, Dehaze said that multiple lockdowns and permanent home offices “have led to breaks in many companies – and to heavy burdens for managers and employees.”
After two years of the pandemic, the CEO stated that it is now time for companies to “rebuild their bond with their employees as quickly as possible” and reconnect with their team on a physical workspace.
In his view, full-time remote work could lead to increased stress levels and loneliness for employees.
Dehaze emphasized that although there will be no returning to full-time office work, companies could explore a hybrid approach as people need contact, proximity, and encouragement from their co-workers to maintain happiness in their jobs.
