PH gov’t urged to invest in digital technologies

The Philippine Business for Environmental Sustainability is urging the government to invest in digital technologies to achieve economic recovery and environmental sustainability.
The advocacy group’s convenor Felix Vitangcol said it is crucial to achieve environment-friendly operations and build resilience to extreme weather events caused by climate change.
He stated that if the government fails “to optimize digital technologies, we will only widen social divides and expose the most vulnerable among us to economic and environmental risks.”
Vitangcol explained that aside from calamity management, digital technologies could also make industries environment-friendly.
Currently, most companies value sustainable initiatives and are integrating them into their business culture.
Vitangcol added that “this is a sign that industry captains are putting their money where their mouth is, by committing substantial resources to long-term environmental concerns.”
However, he argued that the government should match this effort to ensure that “no one is left behind.”
