Upskilling PH workforce crucial to stay relevant in the future

Local companies in the Philippines are encouraged to create an environment of digitalization and automation where they can upskill their workforces to stay relevant in the future.
During an online forum, tech industry and human resource executives from Tata Consultancy Services Philippines, JobStreet Philippines, and AIA Philippines agreed that the accelerated shift to digital transformation and automation requires an upskilled workforce to ensure the company’s sustainability.
JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Phillip Gioca said that the demand for highly skilled workers continues to attract foreign companies to the country.
“When you look at [the] Asia Pacific where we operate, there is a huge demand, especially for tech companies in Singapore, Australia, and other companies in the US. So, it’s really a massive demand for that talent,” Gioca stated.
AIA Philippines Chief HR officer Ellen Imasa pointed out that upskilling should not always lead companies to resort to buying or recruiting talents from the outside of the organization.
Imasa added that upskilling is not “just about adopting new tools and technologies, it’s all about having a shift in terms of mindset, having the willingness and the vulnerability to actually learn new skills…”
