Amazon launches new AWS Local Zone in PH

IT services firm Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) will be expanding its cloud infrastructure in the Philippines through the launch of a new AWS Local Zone in Manila.
AWS ASEAN Managing Director for Commercial Conor McNamara said that the new facility is a continuation of the company’s investments to support customers of all kinds and commitment and will bring seamless and better user experience for their clients.
AWS ASEAN Managing Director for Commercial Conor McNamara said that the new local zone “would empower more public and private organizations, innovative startups, and AWS Partners to deliver a new generation of leading edge, low-latency applications to end users, taking advantage of the cost savings, scalability and high availability.”
Moreover, the cloud infrastructure will complement AWS’ existing facilities in the country, including Amazon Cloud Front and AWS Outposts.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic said that they “aim to utilize the benefits of cloud computing to make government services more responsive to the needs of the Filipino people.”
Caintic stated that Amazon’s new venture “will help promote cloud as the preferred ICT deployment technology for better governance and more efficient public service delivery.”
Recently, AWS also set up its cloud-based contact center Amazon Connect in South Africa.
