Converge experiences security breach

Internet service provider (ISP) Converge ICT Solutions was hit by a security breach last March 4 in its GoFiber application customer dashboard where clients pay their bills and monitor their internet usage.
In an email to a subscriber seen by Philstar.com, Converge said personal information — including birthdate, full name, maiden name of their mother, mobile number, email, service address, province and municipality registered in its system — were hacked but they have “no evidence” that these data have been misused.
The ISP added that they “have implemented additional validation in the system to address the security breach and to strengthen the GoFiber app security.
Users of the GoFiber app are assured that only they can retrieve account information linked to their registered account.
Converge did not mention how many subscribers were affected by the breach, but they described it as an “isolated incident and a small portion of our customer base was affected.”
Meanwhile, the National Privacy Commission told Philstar.com that they are now evaluating the company’s compliance and monitoring team.
Converge saw a boom in customers throughout the pandemic as Filipinos started working from home. It said that as of the end of 2020, its domestic network spanned over 55,000 kilometers, covering 300 cities and municipalities across Luzon and reaching around 6.1 million homes.
