Lisbon hailed as “the best place to live” for digital nomad

According to new research from real estate firm Savills, Lisbon — Portugal’s capital city — topped the list of best places to live for digital nomad executives.
As part of its Impacts 2022 program, Savills ranked 15 locations with a digital nomad visa program, or equivalent, allowing free movement for long-term remote workers.
Each city was judged based on internet speed, quality of life, climate, air connectivity, and prime residential rents.
Lisbon was placed in the no.1 spot due to Portugal’s high quality of life, low pollution, and favorable climate. In addition, the city offers strong physical connectivity thanks to its “well-connected international airport.”
Savills Portugal Head of Residential Ricardo Garcia said that ‘Tech executives and entrepreneurs are also drawn by Lisbon’s burgeoning status as a tech hub. Real estate costs are low, and there is a strong local talent pool.
Garcia added that more companies are moving their headquarters to the country, making it more international.
Savill’s report added that executive nomads turn their holiday homes into year-round ones as the workplace model evolves into a flexible arrangement.
Portugal’s southernmost region, the Algarve, also took the fourth spot on the list.
