South Africa recruitment up 32% y-o-y in April

The recruitment activity in South Africa grew by 32% year-on-year in April, reflecting a strong hiring trend in the country.
According to a report from the recruitment website Career Junction, more than 50% of vacancies are based in Gauteng — South Africa’s smallest province but largest economic hub.
Meanwhile, over 30% of job offers are located in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
Career Junction also found that in South Africa, on average, candidates stay about two years and 10 months in the same job before moving on.
Comparing generations, Gen Z usually stays in a job for just over 12 months, Gen Y tends to stay between 19 and 28 months, Gen X moves on to the next job after 43 to 64 months and baby boomers tend to stay at least 31 months in their position before changing jobs.
Career Junction said that this data shows “that older generations tend to stay longer in their job roles while younger generations, particularly Gen Y, seem to job-hop in pursuit of new career opportunities… if they don’t feel empowered to achieve the levels of career success they’re chasing at their current organization.”
