PH reports 599 severe COVID-19 cases over the weekend

The Department of Health (DOH) reported that about 599 or 11.1% of COVID-19 patients in hospitals are in severe and critical condition.
According to the ABS-CBN Investigative and Research Group, this is the highest number of new severe and critical cases in five weeks.
Meanwhile, 386 or 14.7% of 2,632 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients were occupied on Sunday, June 5.
During the past week, the DOH said it verified one COVID-related fatality that occurred in January 2021, citing late encoding of death information. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths is 60,456.
At the same time, the total recorded cases rhea 3,691,724. Active infections stand at 2,459, the DOH said.
Some 69 million people have been fully vaccinated against respiratory disease, of whom 14.3 million have received their booster shots.
DOH Secretary Francisco Duque said that the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is not a sprint but a marathon.
“We’ve steadily orchestrated the national government’s pandemic response in collaboration with the local government units and equally important to point the private sector,” he added.
