Marcos admin called to prioritize IT-BPO, agri sectors

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is urging the incoming Marcos administration to prioritize further development in the Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) and agricultural sectors.
In a virtual press briefing, DOLE Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay said the new admin “need to put [a] premium on the BPOP sector” as it is the most resilient sector in the country.
Tutay added that the government should also improve the agricultural sector as it has the “most underemployment because of the seasonality of the work.”
According to the latest Labor Force Survey (LFS) result, 2.76 million Filipinos are unemployed in April 2022. The number is lower than the 4.14 million jobless in April 2021, and the 2.87 million unemployed in March 2022.
Considering the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Tutay is also urging the incoming President to focus on the digital sector and make use of the Philippines’ digital skills and digital technology.
Lastly, the DOLE official highlighted the need to reinvigorate the manufacturing sector after it became stagnant amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
