Incoming BIR chief to digitize tax collection

Incoming Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Chief Lilia Guillermo plans to digitize tax collection in the Philippines for transparency and efficiency saying it will make the tax collection system more efficient and less prone to graft and corruption.
Before her BIR recruitment, Guillermo worked in the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) as the Assistant Governor. She was also recognized as “one of the most powerful women in IT in the Philippines” in 2013 with her “wealth of experience” in IT as the managing director of the BSP’s Technology and Digital Innovation Office.
During her BIR appointment, Guillermo stated, “It is my honor to accept the post as head of the BIR. I am thankful for the trust placed in me by the President-elect.”
The incoming bureau chief was in the news lately, declaring that she plans to collect the Marcos clan’s tax liabilities worth P203 billion (US$3.07 billion). She said she aims to collect this amount in compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision to go after the unpaid taxes.
