Google CEO launches ‘Simplicity Sprint’

Tech giant Google is launching a new crowdsourcing initiative called “Simplicity Sprint” to help improve the company’s efficiency and employee focus during economic uncertainties.
During an all-hands meeting, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that the company’s productivity “isn’t where it needs to be” given its huge headcount.
Referring to the company’s Q2 earnings, Pichai said the firm is “facing a challenging macro environment with more uncertainty ahead.”
To address this, he asked employees to help “create a culture that is more mission-focused, more focused on our products, more customer focused. We should think about how we can minimize distractions and really raise the bar on both product excellence and productivity.”
Google’s Simplicity Sprint is an attempt for the company to “get better results faster,” said Pichai.
It comes after the company’s weaker-than-expected earnings and revenue for the second consecutive quarter.
Revenue growth slowed to 13% in the quarter from 62% a year earlier, when the company was benefiting from the post-Covid pandemic reopening, and consumer spending was on the rise.
