Specialized training, skills scarcity empowers employees — PwC

Employees are most likely to feel empowered if they have specialized training and a scarce skill in the job market, said professional services network PwC.
In its latest Global Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey 2022, nearly half (49%) of 52,000 respondents said that their job requires them to have specialized training in their fields.
Among this group, 37% said they plan to ask for promotions, and 41% are planning to ask for a salary raise in the next 12 months.
Meanwhile, 45% said they would likely recommend their employer as an ideal workplace.
At the same time, PwC revealed that compared with employees who don’t believe that their skills are scarce, this group is more likely to feel listened to by their managers, feel satisfied with their job, and are confident to switch to a new employer.
Thailand, India, and Brazil are the countries with the biggest perceived skills shortage. Further, the industries with the highest share of respondents who feel their skills are scarce are healthcare (including pharmaceutical firms), technology, media, and telecommunications.
