Moldova’s IT outsourcing sector hit $350 million in 2021

Moldova’s annual IT export reached nearly $350 million in 2021, with the European Union (EU) being its top market.
According to Economy Minister Sergiu Gaibu, the country’s visual structure IT Park Moldova is one of the main reasons behind the industry’s fast growth. Created in 2017, the e-park has about 1,200 resident firms that pay a flat income tax of only seven per cent.
Gaibu disclosed that the country’s IT industry already provides 3.%% of the national GDP — 85% of which is produced by Moldova IT Park residents.
The minister stated that Moldovan IT companies could focus on – and benefit from – the European market thanks to geographical proximity, common linguistic and cultural traits, and, most importantly, the constant demand for outsourcing.
Moreover, Moldova’s growing IT market is thriving because of the lack of IT specialists in the EU. According to Eurostat, at least 55% of EU companies are experiencing difficulties hiring IT specialists. This problem slows down one of the union’s goals of having at least 20 million IT professionals by 2030.
Moldova’s status as an EU candidate also boosts its IT sector as it helps open up new export opportunities and increase orders in the local market.
