Baguio to build ‘smart city’ with new ICT body

BAGUIO, PHILIPPINES — The Summer Capital is looking to transform into a “smart, livable, and resilient highly urbanized city” with the help of its new ICT body, the Baguio City Information and Communications Technology Council (BCICTC).
According to the City Ordinance 72, Series of 2022 — ratified last December 12 by Mayor Benjamin Magalong — digital advancement is a must for every government to be “more responsive to the present and future needs of its constituents as it enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery in the public sector.”
“Socioeconomic advancement can be further and sustainably attained through the power of digital governance,” it added.
Moreover, it stressed that the city’s “collective growth” is possible with “responsive digital policies in response to the challenges of the ICT age.”
The city ordinance stated that the BCITC would take the lead in policy recommendations related to ICT with the result of attaining digital transformation and governance, among other mandates.
Additionally, the new industry body would be responsible for promoting ICT or digital literacy among locals to participate in an evolving technology-driven age and appreciate the purpose and direction of digital governance.
