Outsourcing industry to benefit from tech layoffs, TDCX exec says

CHAI CHEE, SINGAPORE — Tech layoffs are creating opportunities for the outsourcing industry, Singapore-based customer experience (CX) solutions provider TDCX’s chief executive officer (CEO) and founder Laurent Junique says.
Downsizing is “creating an opportunity for outsourcing,” Junique said.
He explains that outsourcing work allows firms the flexibility to “augment current operations without the commitment” of investing in office spaces and hiring.
TDCX is seeing demand for more mature firms looking to hire large teams in one strategic location, such as in Vietnam and Turkey.
In the first nine months of 2022, the BPO firm opened new offices in markets including South Korea, Romania, Turkey, and Colombia. It also signed up 31 new clients, up from 20 during the same period in 2021.
Junique said emerging outsourcing destinations like Colombia, India, Romania, and South Korea are rising fast, contributing 10% of TDCX’s revenue growth between Q3 2021 and Q3 2022.
But Junique also expects “big players” in Southeast Asia to drive growth in the years ahead as the need to provide good customer experience – and to do so in local languages – surges.
While TDCX aims to widen its global network, Junique believes that in the coming years, the company’s “center of gravity will stay in Southeast Asia and the Asia Pacific.”
