Marcos’ Japan trip yields $13B in deals

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s official visit to Japan was deemed “fruitful” as it sealed US$13 billion worth of pledges with various businesses.
In his departure speech, the President said the deals are set to provide about 24,000 jobs to Filipino workers.
During the five-day trip, the Philippines signed 35 investment deals with leading Japanese firms, including those in the infrastructure, energy, health care, and agriculture industries.
The Philippines and Japan also cemented their defense and security relations and information and communications technology (ICT) cooperation by signing bilateral agreements that “provide the framework for enhanced mutually-beneficial collaborations in many areas.”
Marcos also thanked Japanese companies and partners for considering the Philippines “as a place and as a partner” to grow their businesses.
