Salesforce launches gender-inclusive data collection system

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Cloud-based software company Salesforce launched a new data collection system that promotes inclusivity to their customers.
The firm added new fields for gender identity and pronoun data across its Lead, Contact, and Person Account objects on Salesforce.
This opt-in addition lets customers and users select, identify, and capture pronoun options and gender identity. Both fields also offer a “not listed” option.
Salesforce worked closely with its Inclusive Language Steering Committee — which includes members from their own LGBTQ+ employee resource group Outforce and LGBTQ+ workplace equality called Out and Equal — to develop its new gender-inclusive features.
The company added that using the right gender and pronoun is a key part of building trust with users.
However, Salesforce Chief Ethical and Humane Use Officer Paula Goldman said there is no pressure to use the fields.
“We understand this data can be sensitive, so we’ve designed it with a walkthrough process for admins setting this up… Then admins would choose to include it or not include it, as they’re setting up various instances of Salesforce.”
