Senator pushes for upgrade in Pakistan’s BPO industry

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in Pakistan needs to overcome multiple challenges and implement several upgrades to realize its full potential.
According to a column by Senator Irfan-ul-Haque Siddiqui, the country must improve its infrastructure development, technology, and regulatory environment to encourage more foreign investment and local startups to locate there.
Data from the Pakistan Software Export Board revealed that the nation’s BPO industry generated US$2.1 billion in revenue during the fiscal year 2020-2021.
In comparison, its neighboring country India — one of the largest BPO markets globally — earned around US$38 billion in its outsourcing sector during the same period.
Siddiqui said the industry needs to build strong partnerships with global BPO companies and establish a reputation for high-quality, reliable services.
Pakistan’s BPO industry has several advantages that can help it compete globally — including a highly skilled workforce, a large English-speaking population, and a growing pool of young, tech-savvy talent.
Pakistan’s strategic location also makes it an ideal destination for outsourcing services from the Middle East, Europe, and other regions.
