Malaysia’s BPO/ITES recruitment down 24% in March

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — The BPO/ITES (Business Process Outsourcing/IT Enabled Services) industry in Malaysia recorded a 24% decrease in online recruitment in March.
According to the latest foundit Insights Tracker (fit), this drop was due to the recent layoffs and hiring freezes by major tech companies in the country.
Similarly, IT and Telecom/ISP recruitment activities also dropped by 24%.
On the other hand, the hospitality industry dominated Malaysia’s March labor market as it increased by 59% year-on-year, followed by the retail sector by 26% and the BFSI (banking, financial services) by 17%.
foundit CEO Sekhar Garisa said, “The job market in Malaysia has displayed remarkable resilience, showing consistent growth over the past year, reflecting a gradual but positive shift in the labor market.”
Despite ongoing concerns surrounding the global economic outlook, Garisa stated that many companies are still seeking new talent — particularly individuals with specialized, high-demand skill sets.
