PH breaks ground on new tech park

CATANDUANES, PHILIPPINES — A groundbreaking ceremony for a new Knowledge, Innovation, Science, and Technology (KIST) Park and Agro-Industrial Processing Zone recently occurred at Catanduanes State University (CatSU).
This event marks the establishment of the first ecozones in the Bicol region, initiated by CatSU President Dr. Patrick Azanza and supported by local governmental bodies and community partners.
The KIST Park and Agro-Industrial Zone promise a transformative impact on Catanduanes’ economy, with a projected influx of PHP1.550 Billion (US$27.6 million) in investments.
The project converted idle land within CatSU into a dynamic zone, fostering partnerships between academics, industry, farmers, and local communities, creating a sustainable development model that adheres to environmental standards.
These ecozones position Catanduanes as an attractive investment location in the Philippines. The projects also align with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority’s (PEZA) objectives to stimulate economic growth by creating economic zones.
Previous initiatives in the Bicol Region have led to substantial economic benefits, including employment opportunities and investment contributions.
Catanduanes Congressman Eulogio Rodriguez added that KIST’s establishment is just the “starting step toward the great economic leap of the province of Catanduanes.”
