Mega job fair at Indian University shortlists 1.4K students

CHENNAI, INDIA — A mega job fair hosted by the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation at the University of Madras resulted in 1,400 students shortlisted by potential employers.
Of those shortlisted, 180 students received concrete job offers from IT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms.
The job fair, which saw over 70 participating companies—including Tech Mahindra, Byju’s, and HDFC—provided a platform for talented students to connect with prospective employers.
Among the successful candidates was Jeyajothi, a graduating student of Sir Theyagaraya College, who a BPO firm shortlisted after completing a logistics and internal auditing course under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme.
The Naan Mudhalvan scheme is a skill development initiative launched by the Tamil Nadu government to provide free training to unemployed youth in the state.
N Logesh, the placement officer of Mohamed Sathak College of Arts and Science, highlighted the positive impact of the Naan Mudhalvan scheme. He said students with skills training under the scheme are better positioned to secure jobs.
V Durga Rajulu, vice-president of industry-academia connect (services) for the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, also revealed that the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation plans to hold job fairs across all districts throughout June. He expressed optimism about the upcoming fairs, saying,
“We are expecting 500 companies to take part in the statewide placement [program]. Thousands of students from arts and science colleges are likely to get placed in the drive,” he added.
