64% of global workforce vulnerable to automation

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK — An analysis of AI job automation risks reveals a stark global reality that 64% of the world’s workforce is highly susceptible to AI automation in the future, with certain regions and occupations bearing higher vulnerability.

The study by online media company BizReport estimates that AI could potentially render between 85 million and 300 million workers jobless. 

However, the same technology could generate about 97 million new roles, suggesting the need for careful evaluation of AI integration in workplaces.

Among the 85 nations evaluated, 82 had over half of their workforce at high risk of automation. Singapore emerged as the least threatened, with less than 40% of its employed population at risk. 

Notably, higher-income nations face less disruption from AI job automation, whereas Africa appears the most vulnerable.

The research also identified roles most likely to be replaced by AI, with clerical support workers facing a 90% risk, followed by service and sales workers at 85.7%. Conversely, those least affected are public administration and defense professionals, with only a 9% risk.

BizReport added that education is a key factor affecting automation risk. The findings revealed that low-education workers are 280% more likely to face job loss to AI than high-education workers. Also, higher-paying jobs are 34% less likely to be displaced by AI than lower-paying ones.
