Fiji’s BPO boom to curb talent migration

SUVA, FIJI — The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications of Fiji, Manoa Kamikamica, praised the rapidly growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry as a solution for retaining local talent.
The BPO industry, currently employing over 8,000 individuals, is considered a transformative force for the Fijian economy.
During the inauguration of Outsource Fiji’s head office, Kamikamica revealed that the government’s strategy is to draw BPO investment by offering generous tax incentives and continuous support for the sector.
The government is also investigating solutions for issues concerning telecommunications and office infrastructure.
Jenny Seeto, Chairperson of Investment Fiji, echoed Kamikamica’s optimism and emphasized the need for heightened marketing efforts to inform potential investors about Fiji’s thriving BPO industry.
The government’s incentives for BPOs, such as duty-free equipment and tax deductions related to employment, also aim to position Fiji as an enticing destination for BPO investment, thereby boosting the sector and keeping local talent at home.
