Colombia becomes strategic BPO, KPO hub in Americas

BOGOTA, COLOMBIA — Colombia is solidifying its position as a strategic destination for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) operations in the Americas, with exports in these services exceeding USD 2.6 billion in 2021.
The BPrO’s 2022 BPO Sector Data Report indicates an 8% and 18% growth in exports, contributing 3.5% to Colombia’s GDP.
Recognizing Colombia’s prosperous business environment, Kearney Consultancy ranked the country third in the 2021 Global Services Location Index. Notably, the BPO sector demonstrated consistent growth, surpassing the USD 1 billion mark in 2018.
Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia, said that the Government is prioritizing efforts to foster investment and promote social equity. This strategy aims to position Colombia prominently on the global stage.
The country offers great scalability and low operating costs, making it attractive for companies like Amazon, Teleperformance, and Tata Consultancy Services. The BPO sector, backed by governmental entities and private sector associations, has become one of the largest job creators in the country, generating over 705,000 jobs by the end of 2021.
Colombia’s strategic location, robust educational system, and skilled workforce offer a competitive edge for BPO operations. Its solid infrastructure, low internet connectivity costs, and proximity to major American economic centers further enhance its appeal. Thus, it provides a unique investment opportunity in a safe and prosperous environment.
