Hiring surges in Indian IT, BPO sectors for June

MUMBAI, INDIA — The Indian IT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industries recorded a small increase in hiring activity in June 2023, according to a report by IANS.
After a wave of unexpected layoffs from companies such as Twitter, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and IBM, the job market became highly competitive, causing widespread concern.
However, the recent report shows promising signs of recovery. Last month, the IT sector saw a 2% rise in recruitment. Although not a massive increase, it marks an encouraging turn of events.
The BPO sector also showed positive growth, with a 7% increase in hiring. Healthcare, production and manufacturing, and logistics sectors also experienced an upswing in recruitment activity, with rises of 11%, 5%, and 9%, respectively.
Sekhar Garisa, CEO of the online jobs platform foundit, said, “Jobs in segments such as Healthcare, Manufacturing, and even IT have returned, and we expect to see better hiring intentions in the coming quarter as companies revisit their talent requirements.
“As seen during any global slowdown, India Inc. exhibited cautious hiring sentiments, but this is bound to bounce back with time,” he added.
However, the tech industry is still witnessing layoffs. Microsoft recently announced the termination of 276 employees based out of Washington, USA, continuing the layoff trend of 10,000 employees losing their jobs globally in January this year.
