Google urges people to verify Bard outputs

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Tech giant Google prompted its users to validate information sourced from its newly-released chatbot, Bard, through its search engine.
Google’s UK Chief Debbie Weinstein described Bard as an exploratory tool created for problem-solving collaborations and idea generation rather than a search engine.
Google urges users to cross-check Bard’s information using Google’s search engine and to use the thumbs-up or down buttons to give feedback on Bard’s responses.
The introduction of ChatGPT in late 2022 sparked discussions on AI’s potential effects on work and its perceived dangers, while some argue that the AI risk is overstated. Despite chatbots like Bard and ChatGPT posing a potential threat to conventional search, led by Google, their reliability also remains dubious.
However, Google’s report noted a marked increase in the UK’s AI-related search activities during the first half of 2023, with predominant queries on monetizing AI and leveraging it for business advantages.
To address this interest, Google is rolling out ‘New Fundamentals,’ a free online training series on the practical uses of AI.
The report also underscores a significant deficiency in tech skills in the UK, which could hinder nationwide growth. Google is actively seeking solutions to this shortage in response to the escalating demand for AI and other tech skills.
