Longer sleep boosts work efficiency, PlushCare study reveals

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — The World Sleep Trends Report of 2023 by PlushCare finds a direct correlation between extended sleep durations and enhanced work efficiency and well-being.
Utilizing data from Sleepcycle.com, the report evaluated sleep patterns across various countries.
Australia leads with 8.60% of its population as “long sleepers,” while Qatar has the highest concentration of “short sleepers.”
Interestingly, Denmark’s citizens sleep more than double their working hours, hinting at the connection between adequate sleep and optimized work performance. In contrast, only 70.14% of U.S. residents achieve the advised sleep duration.
According to PlushCare, the bond between sleep and work is complex and constantly evolving with societal shifts. The rise of “revenge sleep,” described as postponing sleep due to earlier stress or limited free time, mirrors such nuances.
However, remote work’s rise brought forward the concept of “sleep syncing,” where people could realign their sleep schedules with natural circadian rhythms. This not only heightens productivity but nurtures mental health.
PlushCare’s study also showcased a heightened demand for sleep aids to help people struggling to get consistent and high-quality sleep.
Sweden, Norway, and Denmark make over 80,000 searches per million people annually for sleep aids such as melatonin, magnesium, lavender, and CBD (cannabidiol) — 30,000 more searches per year than any other country.
