Digital learning valued but underutilized by Singaporeans — survey
SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE — Ninety percent of Singaporean adult learners believe digital learning is important for skills development but only 43% have not used it in the past year, according to a new report from NTUC LearningHub.
The Special Report 2023 on Digital Learning surveyed 200 employed individuals in Singapore. Those who are not Professionals, Managers, Executives, and Technicians, that is, non-PMETs (54%) and baby boomers (58%), were least likely to have used digital learning recently.
Learners cited limited hands-on experience, lack of self-discipline, and instructor guidance as top obstacles.
Meanwhile, blended learning was preferred by 64%, especially Gen Zs and PMETs. Seven in ten would only use digital learning if it provided skills badges or micro-credentials.
Flexibility, convenience, and cost-effectiveness were seen as the top benefits of digital learning
Joe Loy, Managing Director of Digital Business at NTUC LearningHub says, “The workplace today has transformed and with it, the future of learning. The flexible nature of digital learning enables [organizations] to supplement it with existing in-person training [programs], and in turn, champion employees’ lifelong learning and skills development.”
NTUC LearningHub offers over 2,900 courses and has helped 29,000 organizations achieve 2.6 million training places since 2004.
