Philippine customer service jobs rise amid employment dip

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Philippines experienced a six per cent rise in customer service jobs despite a broader nine per cent year-on-year (YoY) decrease in recruitment in August.
According to the foundit Insights Tracker (fit) report, this uptick aligns with the nation’s emerging status as a global hub for customer service outsourcing within the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.
Though the overall job market depicted volatility, a three per cent monthly growth also suggested a potential recovery on the horizon.
The retail sector stood out in the local job market, boasting a 45% annual increase. However, the logistics and tech sectors faced setbacks, with a 35% dip and a 22% drop, respectively.
Further, marketing and communications roles saw a 23% decline, hinting at businesses adapting to a changing marketplace, while purchase and logistics roles saw a 24% YoY drop.
