Global AI hiring surges 60%: Deel

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES — Global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) roles has risen sharply over the past year, according to recent data from remote work platform Deel.
As of September 2023, Deel has over 5,000 active AI, data science, and software engineering contracts, paid by over 2,100 organizations, representing a 60% increase from September 2022.
The United States continues to lead in AI hiring, followed by Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Surprisingly, Canada tops for new AI hires, then India, Spain, Germany, and the UK.
Latin America is also benefiting from the AI boom, with average salaries steadily rising over the past year in countries like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
Notably, India is leading in new AI positions like AI engineer and AI training lead. Meanwhile, U.S. firms are hiring AI talent in Brazil, Canada, and Argentina, with cities like Toronto, Bangalore, London, Lahore, Berlin, and Buenos Aires becoming AI hotspots.
Cross-border hiring through Employer of Record (EOR) models has enabled this global sourcing of AI talent by breaking down traditional barriers.
“Our hypothesis is that complementary trends have allowed AI to touch all corners of the globe,” the company said in a statement.
AI demand is especially robust in Germany, the U.S., and the UK, where contract creation has risen 52%, 44%, and 41% respectively.
