JLR partners with Tata Communications for AI-powered car manufacturing

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Car maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has partnered with tech firm Tata Communications to boost its manufacturing processes with the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
Tata Communications will integrate several AI systems into JLR’s production lines. Through Tata Communications’ AI update, JLR’s assembly process is expected to accelerate and become more resilient. Safety features are also included in the update through predictive risk management controls.
JLR is expected to improve the quality and quantity of its manufacturing operations through real-time data capturing, monitoring, and analysis.
Under this pact, JLR can connect its 128 sites worldwide using Tata Communications’ cloud-first, software-defined network capability (SD-WAN). This will provide JLR with an optimized supply chain to meet the growing demands of the automobile industry.
The implementation has already started, with the full installation expected to be completed by 2025.
JLR’s group chief digital and information officer Tony Battle said: “Moving to SD-WAN means we can use AI-powered automation to predict vulnerabilities, proactively intervene, prevent issues and perform more effectively on a global scale across our network.”
“The cutting-edge connectivity platform will help us build the world-class ecosystem we need to deliver modern luxury vehicles and remarkable driving experiences,” he added.
