COLOMBO, SRI LANKA — The Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) has launched an innovative orientation program for newly appointed Sri Lankan Ambassadors and High Commissioners.

Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the initiative aims to enhance Sri Lanka’s Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry globally.

The program, led by SLASSCOM Vice Chairman Nishan Mendis and Program Manager Lakshmi Jaliyagodage-Sinor, is designed to equip diplomats with a deep understanding of Sri Lanka’s IT-BPM capabilities. This knowledge will be pivotal in establishing international partnerships and promoting Sri Lanka’s industry expertise abroad.

A notable group of diplomats, including High Commissioner to India Kshenuka Senewiratne, High Commissioner to Bangladesh W.M. Dharmapala, Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union W. K. C. Weerasena, Ambassador to Egypt E. M.J Weninger, Ambassador to Italy S.A. Rodrigo, and Ambassador to Nepal S. K. Pathirana, have been selected for this program.

The High Commissioner to Pakistan R. C. Wijegunarathne, High Commissioner to Singapore D. D. M. S. B. Dissanayake, High Commissioner to The United Kingdom Rohitha Bogollagama,  and Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba D. N. S. Ulugetenne were also invited to participate in the program.

These individuals are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Sri Lanka’s economic and cultural ties across various nations.

The orientation program emphasizes the importance of the IT-BPM sector in Sri Lanka’s economic development. The aim is to prepare these diplomats to attract foreign investment and open international markets for Sri Lankan companies.

Through this initiative, SLASSCOM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are taking significant steps to establish Sri Lanka as a leading destination for IT-BPM services. The focus is on creating economic growth through strategic international alliances, furthering Sri Lanka’s position in the global business landscape.
