Carelon Global Solutions to add 1,000 employees in Philippines

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Healthcare contact center and nurse services provider Carelon Global Solutions Philippines is set to expand its operations by adding 1,000 more seats next year.
This move will push the company’s staffing beyond the 10,000-worker mark, reinforcing its commitment to growth in the Philippines.
Current workforce and locations
Carelon Philippines Chief Country Executive Nicolai Agcaoili announced the expansion during a briefing last week.
“As we speak, we have more than a thousand jobs in the pipeline. So, with that, my fervent hope is to get us to breach the 10,000 mark,” Agcaoili told BusinessWorld.
The company currently employs over 9,000 full-time employees across four sites: GLAS Building in Ortigas, Alliance Global Tower in Taguig, and One Fintech and SM Strata in Iloilo City.
New recruitment hubs and locations
Agcaoili revealed plans to establish another recruitment hub and explore new locations outside of Manila and Iloilo.
“We are looking at tier one and two cities in the various regions and are assessing the talent availability and infrastructure in those areas,” he said.
The company aims to ensure proper due diligence before finalizing the new site, emphasizing the importance of making the right decision.
Office space and work-from-home arrangements
To accommodate the 1,000 new employees, Carelon may need to build a new site as its current offices are nearing capacity. However, Agcaoili noted that office space requirements might not directly correspond to staffing numbers due to work-from-home arrangements.
“Based on the current vacant seats we have, it will not be enough because there’s still going to be growth next year,” he explained.
Future growth and talent challenges
Agcaoili highlighted the company’s forward-looking approach, stating, “By October, we’ll already be discussing the pipeline for 2025 and 2026. So it really is just preparing for growth in the coming years.”
Despite the expansion, the healthcare information and management services industry faces challenges in finding qualified candidates.
“Talent will always be at the top of the list of challenges. There’s demand, so part of how we are solving it is that we need to go outside of our own silos,” Agcaoili said.
To address this, Carelon partners with universities to provide customized training tailored for healthcare and business process outsourcing.
“We partner with different universities and extend needed training that is customized and tailor-fit not just for healthcare but overall for business process outsourcing … because that is the only surefire way for us to be able to help solve this,” he added.
Carelon Global Solutions’ expansion underscores its commitment to enhancing healthcare services and creating more job opportunities in the Philippines. The company grew eight-fold during the pandemic, with its workforce increasing from 800 to 7,000 between 2020 and 2022.
