Wipro appoints Bruno Schenk as new Switzerland head

Bruno Schenk, Wipro’s new Country Head and Managing Director for Switzerland, will report directly to Wipro’s Europe CEO Pierre Bruno.

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND and BENGALURU, INDIA — Indian IT giant Wipro Limited has appointed Bruno Schenk as the new Country Head and Managing Director for Switzerland, effective immediately.

Schenk will report directly to Wipro’s Europe CEO Pierre Bruno, succeeding René Mulder who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

Schenk’s extensive management experience

Schenk brings over 25 years of management experience across various industries, with expertise in leveraging data and technology for innovation and growth. He previously served as the CEO of Eviden Switzerland, an Atos business focused on digital transformation solutions.

“I extend a warm welcome to Bruno, and I look forward to the insights, energy and rigour he will bring to our clients and teams in Switzerland and as part of our Europe Leadership Team,” said Bruno

“I’m delighted to be joining Wipro at an important time in their journey. I look forward to meeting new colleagues, clients, and partners in the region to boost their growth and realize their digital transformation ambitions,” Schenk remarked.

Mulder and Schenk will work together closely over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition. Bruno thanks Mulder for his leadership over the last four years, “delivering outstanding value and innovation and for building a strong, client-focused team in the region.”

Severance pay row for former Wipro CEO

The leadership change comes amid a controversy surrounding the $4.3 million severance package approved for Wipro’s former CEO Thierry Delaporte, who resigned in April 2024.

While the resolution passed with 89.7% votes in favor, nearly 10.3% of public shareholders, including prominent institutional investors, voted against the substantial payout, citing concerns over excessive executive compensation.

However, Wipro’s high promoter shareholding of around 73% held by founder Azim Premji’s entities enabled the resolution’s approval, overshadowing public dissent.

Wipro is a global technology services provider with over 230,000 employees across 65 countries. The company reported revenues of ₹897.6 billion (US$10.8 billion) for the quarter and year ending March 31, 2024. It recently secured the #4 spot in the OA500 2024, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
