Accenture acquires Cientra, expands silicon design capabilities

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES and BENGALURU, INDIA — Outsourcing giant Accenture has acquired Cientra, a silicon design and engineering services company.
While the terms of the deal remain undisclosed, this move significantly bolsters Accenture’s capabilities in the silicon design arena.
Expanding global footprint
Founded in 2015, Cientra brings a wealth of expertise to Accenture’s portfolio.
The company is headquartered in New Jersey, U.S., with offices in Frankfurt, Germany, and multiple locations in India (Bangalore, Hyderabad, and New Delhi). It specializes in custom silicon solutions for global clients. Cientras strengths lie in embedded IoT and application-specific integrated circuit design and verification.
“Everything from data center expansion to cloud computing, wireless technologies, edge computing and the proliferation of AI, are driving demand for next-generation silicon products,” said Karthik Narain, group chief executive—Technology at Accenture.
“Our acquisition of Cientra is our latest move to expand our silicon design and engineering capabilities and it underscores our commitment to helping our clients maximize value and reinvent themselves in this space.”
Boosting workforce and expertise
The acquisition brings approximately 530 experienced engineers and practitioners to Accenture’s Advanced Technology Centers in India.
This influx of talent strengthens Accenture’s capabilities in engineering, development, and testing across hardware, software, and networks, particularly in the automotive, telecommunications, and high-tech industries.
Anil Kempanna, CEO of Cientra, expressed enthusiasm about the merger: “Joining Accenture provides exciting opportunities to expand globally and scale our capabilities to create new avenues of growth for our clients as well as our people.”
This acquisition is part of Accenture’s broader strategy to expand its semiconductor design services. It follows the recent additions of Excelmax Technologies in Bangaluru, India, and XtremeEDA in Ottawa, Canada, further solidifying Accenture’s position in the global semiconductor market.
Accenture is a global leader in professional services. It operates in more than 120 countries and has an approximately 750,000-person workforce. For the second consecutive year, it ranked #1 in the OA500 2024, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
