ARKANSAS, UNITED STATES — West Memphis, Arkansas, has launched an incentive program offering up to $10,000 for remote workers willing to relocate to the city.

The initiative, part of a partnership with MakeMyMove, aims to boost the local economy and diversify the community by enticing professionals who can work from anywhere.

Eligibility criteria and application process

The “Move to West Memphis” campaign provides substantial financial incentives for newcomers:

  • $10,000 cash for those purchasing a home
  • $5,000 cash for those opting to rent
  • A meal with the Mayor as an added perk

To qualify, applicants must meet specific criteria:

  • Be employed full-time remotely or self-employed with a portable client base
  • Earn at least $80,000 annually
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Currently reside outside of West Memphis
  • Commit to relocating within 6 months

The application process is straightforward, with no fees required.

Interested remote workers can apply through the MakeMyMove platform, where they’ll be guided through eligibility checks and connected with local program sponsors.

  • Apply: Complete the quick application form, providing personal details and reasons for relocating.
  • Get pre-qualified: Eligible applicants will be introduced to local sponsors who will provide more information about the community.
  • Confirm eligibility: Once selected, eligibility for the program will be confirmed, and a formal incentive offer will be extended.
  • Accept and move: Accept the offer to secure your spot and inform the sponsors of your arrival to receive the incentive.

Growing trend in remote worker attraction

As cities compete for talent in the post-pandemic era of remote work, West Memphis’ approach could serve as a model for other communities looking to attract skilled professionals and boost their local economies.

Meanwhile, Columbus, the second-largest city in Georgia, has previously launched a similar program in collaboration with MakeMyMove that offers remote workers over $7,000 to join its community.
