Wipro CTO Subha Tatavarti resigns amid leadership shake-up

BENGALURU, INDIA — Tech giant Wipro announced the resignation of its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Subha Tatavarti.
In a regulatory filing, Wipro stated that Tatavarti resigned “to pursue opportunities outside Wipro”.
Tatavarti joined Wipro in March 2021 from Walmart Inc., where she led product and technology development for the retail giant’s enterprise infrastructure businesses.
Leadership transition at Wipro
Tatavarti’s departure, effective August 16, marks the fourth exit from Wipro’s senior management team since Srini Pallia took over as CEO in April 2024.
Other recent departures include:
- Ajit Mahale, Chief Delivery Officer
- Amit Choudhary, Chief Operating Officer
- Anis Chenchah, Chief Executive of APMEA Strategic Market Unit
The company has also elevated several insiders to new roles, including Dilip Dialani as COO of Americas One and Nanda Kishore as chief of delivery and operational excellence.
Industry analysis on Wipro’s leadership changes
Industry analysts have largely viewed the leadership changes as expected and potentially beneficial for Wipro in the long term.
“One shouldn’t read much into it. The CEO has to form his own senior management team,” said Shriram Subramanian, founder and managing director of InGovern Research Services.
“Over the last few years, Wipro had become top heavy, and hence it is good that it is losing some senior executives.”
Kotak Institutional Equities analysts Kawaljeet Saluja, Sathishkumar S, and Vamshi Krishna said that some senior management adjustment is expected in the initial year of the CEO change.
“The focus will be on minimizing the churn, ensuring the retention of senior leaders and navigating people changes smoothly.”
Wipro is a global technology services provider with over 230,000 employees across 65 countries. The company reported revenues of ₹897.6 billion (US$10.8 billion) for the quarter and year ending March 31, 2024. It recently secured the #4 spot in the OA500 2024, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
