Randstad expands healthcare reach with Zorgwerk acquisition

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS — Global talent company Randstad has announced its intention to acquire Zorgwerk, a digital healthcare marketplace in the Netherlands, in a strategic move to strengthen its position in the healthcare sector.
The transaction awaits approval from the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and consultation with employee representative bodies.
Meeting growing healthcare demand through innovation
The acquisition comes at a crucial time as the demand for healthcare talent in the Netherlands continues to surge. Currently, one in seven people works in the healthcare ecosystem, and projections indicate this will increase to one in four by 2040.
“As part of our strategy, we are focused on growing segments and leveraging digital marketplaces to create more personalized and efficient engagements with clients and talent,” said Sander van ‘t Noordende, CEO of Randstad.
“By combining Randstad and Zorgwerk we can serve the broadest set of needs of our healthcare clients, across all types of work arrangements, to help address the critical challenges of the healthcare and care industry where talent scarcity is most pronounced.”
Zorgwerk, known for its innovative digital platform, connects healthcare and social assistance professionals with both emergency and long-term job placements. Serving over 75,000 healthcare professionals, the company’s platform enables workers to select assignments that suit their availability, providing real-time matching for diverse needs, including roles in homecare, elderly care, disability support, mental health services, and hospitals.
Strengthening Randstad’s healthcare portfolio
Randstad operates in 39 markets with approximately 40,000 employees. The company generated revenues of €25.4 billion ($27.5 billion) in 2023 and helped 2 million people find work through its four specializations: operational, professional, digital, and enterprise.
“With Randstad, we have found a strong partner who supports our growth ambitions. Our culture revolves around talent and clients, with innovation and the improvement of our business processes at the core,” said Daniëlle van der Burg, CEO of Zorgwerk.
“This combination will allow us to build a leading and respected position in the healthcare talent industry. Together with Randstad, I see great potential to further enhance our strategy, accelerate our growth and offer great advantages to society.”
Zorgwerk, operating from Rotterdam, has built a significant presence in the Dutch healthcare sector over its 26-year history. The company facilitates over 1 million talent matches annually across various healthcare sectors.
