iQor to cut 471 call center jobs in U.S. after major client loss
FLORIDA, UNITED STATES — Global customer service firm iQor will lay off a total of 471 employees across Arizona and Mississippi after a key client declined to renew its contract, the Phoenix Business Journal reports.
The cuts, set for July 31, will primarily affect call center agents and mark the latest in a string of workforce reductions across the Phoenix metro area.
Client loss triggers mass layoffs at iQor
iQor spokesperson Nicole Gobbo said the company is attempting to reassign affected workers but acknowledged uncertainty about retention rates in Mississippi.
“We value these employees and we’re doing everything to identify positions within iQor,” Gobbo told Phoenix Business Journal. “We’re looking for clients to support more employment opportunities,” she added.
The layoffs impact employees who transitioned to remote work after iQor shuttered its Tempe facility in 2020.
While no union workers are affected, the cuts represent a broader trend in Arizona’s job market, following recent WARN filings from solar manufacturer Meyer Burger Americas Ltd. — a subsidiary of Meyer Burger Technology AG and garment supplier Stahls’ Decorating Fulfillment Center (DFC).
Gobbo emphasized iQor’s efforts to secure new clients but provided no timeline for rehiring.
Arizona’s job market faces mounting pressure
The losses highlight vulnerabilities in industries reliant on contract-based revenue, particularly in customer service and manufacturing. Arizona law mandates WARN notices for mass layoffs, offering displaced workers limited advance notice.
With iQor retaining HR and IT staff in Mississippi, the firm aims to rebuild its client portfolio—but competition is fierce among the 40,000-employee company’s global network.
Analysts warn that contract-dependent sectors may see further instability as companies consolidate outsourcing partnerships.
The Phoenix metro, home to a growing tech and manufacturing base, absorbs these disruptions amid broader economic uncertainty.
