Cognizant to open new IT Campus, creating 8,000 jobs

VISAKHAPATNAM, INDIA — Cognizant Technology Solutions will establish a new IT campus in Visakhapatnam, investing ₹1,583 crore (US$184.9 million) and generating 8,000 jobs.
ETV Bharat writes in their published article that the plan, which is located in 22 acres of Kapuluppada, Andhra Pradesh, India will initiate with an interim facility accommodating 800 associates in 2025 and first permanent phase that is expected to be completed by 2029.
It was announced at a time when Google and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have plans to construct an 80-acre data center with 12,000 employees, and Andhra Pradesh is showing tremendous growth in the direction of an IT destination to compete against its rivals.
Emerging tech powerhouses
Cognizant’s choice of Visakhapatnam reflects a broader industry shift toward Tier-2 cities, where lower costs and untapped talent pools offer growth advantages.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ravi Kumar pointed out that Visakhapatnam stood the advantage of being a place that develops a future proof digital workforce.
“Visakhapatnam, a rising Tier-2 city, has been strategically chosen to build tomorrow’s digital workforce. We aim to create meaningful career opportunities while contributing to the region’s growth with top-tier talent and world-class infrastructure,” said Kumar.
With employees across 13 Indian cities, Cognizant aims to strike a balance between scalability and regional economic impact. Keen policies such as simplified land allocations of Andhra Pradesh have also pulled the attention of key stakeholders.
The corporate interest on the infrastructure and skilling is equivalent to the state interest which benefits both the job seekers and the investors in a mutual sense.
Strengthening IT ecosystem
The government of the state has been actively wooing technology investments, with IT Minister Nara Lokesh terming the arrival of Cognizant as a driver towards skill development.
“We welcome Cognizant to Visakhapatnam in line with our vision of making Andhra Pradesh a global destination for IT and emerging technologies,” Lokesh states in his post in X.
“Their presence will accelerate the digital economy and help develop future-ready skills among local youth,” he added, highlighting the commitment to creating a strong and progressing IT ecosystem.
Cognizant recently ranked #7 in the OA500 2025, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies.
