Wipro, Warburg near $500Mn deal for Harman India unit
MUMBAI, INDIA — Outsourcing firm Wipro Technologies and global private equity firm Warburg Pincus are in advanced discussions to acquire the digital transformation solutions (DTS) business of Harman International’s India operations. The deal is valued at around $500 million (approximately ₹4,375 crore), the Economic Times reported.
Deutsche Bank is advising Harman, a wholly owned subsidiary of South Korea’s Samsung Electronics, on the transaction. Representatives from Wipro, Warburg Pincus, and Harman declined to comment by press time.
Why the deal matters
Harman, primarily known for its automotive connected car systems, was acquired by Samsung Electronics in 2017 for $8 billion. While automotive remains a key revenue segment, Harman’s India DTS business is a diversified hub supporting life sciences innovations, clinical trials, regulatory compliance, and industrial IoT solutions.
For Wipro, acquiring Harman’s DTS arm would strengthen its engineering and digital transformation capabilities and enhance its footprint in sectors like healthcare and industrial automation. Warburg Pincus’s participation signals private equity’s strong appetite for technology-enabled services in India.
The potential deal highlights Wipro’s continued push to grow through acquisitions and deepen its partnership with global technology leaders.
Wipro’s acquisition strategy
Wipro Technologies is an Indian IT services firm offering digital, consulting, and engineering solutions globally. The company has been actively expanding through acquisitions, including the 2024 takeover of U.S.-based Aggne Global in the insurance tech sector and the $1.45 billion acquisition of management consultancy Capco in 2021.
