Advania acquires Gompute to expand AI and HPC leadership in Europe

Advania acquires Gompute to expand AI and HPC leadership in Europe

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN — Gompute, a high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure platform established by atNorth, becomes part of Advania, a Northern European managed services provider, as part of an announced acquisition.

The acquisition of Gompute is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of 2025, following regulatory approval, which will expand Advania’s market position in AI and HPC outsourcing services.

Advania Sweden now welcomes Gompute’s teams in Sweden and Spain to enhance its regional market position and support clients in meeting their stringent data sovereignty requirements.

“With Gompute, we can deliver those capabilities in-region, on-demand, and under full client control, ensuring regulatory compliance without compromising performance,” said Henrik Foyn-Laukvik, Advania’s head of M&A.

Boosting services for enterprise and outsourcing clients

Gompute offers a complete stack solution that handles complex HPC and AI computing requirements for financial services, automotive, and computer-aided engineering (CAE) enterprise clients.

Europe’s top clients, who require research and development as well as innovation support, trust the Gompute platform’s private cloud services and scalable computing clusters for their compute-intensive outsourcing needs.

When Gompute joins Advania, it will enable its customers to access the complete range of AI consulting services, implementation expertise, and managed services capabilities provided by the group.

“The acquisition of the Gompute platform is an important milestone in Advania’s journey to deliver sovereign AI services across Northern Europe,” said Hege Störe, CEO of Advania, to InsideHPC

“I am delighted to welcome Gompute’s talented team to Advania, and together we will build the infrastructure foundation that gives our customers the speed, efficiency and resilience they need for their AI and HPC workloads.”

The high-density data centers operated by atNorth will continue to host the Gompute platform, allowing both firms to preserve their existing partnership and serve the present and future market requirements.

“Gompute has played a key role in our HPC journey, and its evolution with Advania marks an exciting next chapter,” commented Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth.

Corporate backgrounds and market position

Gompute was launched in 2002, integrating high-performance infrastructure with user-friendly software tools to support operations for Swedish and Spanish clients. The company became part of atNorth’s portfolio when atNorth purchased it in 2023.

Advania, which began operations in Iceland in 1939, expanded into a major IT outsourcing service provider through its workforce of over 5,000 employees serving the markets of Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Norway, the UK, and Ireland.

The company generated SEK 18.6 billion (US$ 1.96 billion) in pro forma net sales during 2024, while maintaining a ‘B’ credit rating with a stable outlook from major rating agencies, demonstrating financial stability and achieving a 25% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the past 15 years. Advania is majority-owned by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, an indicator of stable backing for future M&A activity and strategic growth.

The acquisition reflects the ongoing consolidation in the European IT infrastructure and outsourcing market, as enterprises accelerate their AI and digital transformation journeys, demanding robust, secure, and locally compliant computing solutions.
