India’s hiring intent soars 11% in 2026, fueled by AI

UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA — India’s job market is set for a significant rebound in 2026, with hiring intent rising to 11%, up from 9.75% last year, according to the India Decoding Jobs 2026 Report.
In a report from Communications Today, the growth marks a clear shift from recovery to reinvention, driven by artificial intelligence (AI), digital acceleration, and regional expansion across industries.
AI reshaping recruitment and skills demand
The report, launched by digital recruitment platform Taggd in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), highlights how AI is transforming recruitment processes.
“This resurgence marks a shift from recovery to reinvention, powered by digital acceleration, formalisation, and regional expansion,” said Devashish Sharma, Co-founder and CEO of Taggd.
According to the study, 60% of recruiters now use AI for resume screening, while 45% use it to automate interviews. As a result, AI-related expertise is becoming as critical in recruitment roles as in other industries.
Employers are increasingly scouting talent skilled in GenAI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, as well as digital and data specialists, AI/ML engineers, solutions architects, and sustainability specialists.
Focus on experienced talent and regional growth
2026 is shaping up to be the year for mid- and senior-level professionals, with companies prioritizing candidates with 6–15+ years of experience.
Additionally, Tier II cities are projected to account for 32% of job openings, as organizations—including global capability centers (GCCs)—tap into regional hubs for emerging skills and cost efficiency.
The report also noted gender trends, projecting female hiring at 30% for FY 2026–2027, consistent with 2025 but lower than the 36% recorded in 2024. This highlights ongoing challenges in achieving workplace diversity despite broader talent growth.
India’s increasing reliance on AI and its expansion of regional talent signal strong opportunities for both domestic and global employers. Companies are now better positioned to tap into skilled labor outside traditional metro areas, supporting scalable operations while maintaining cost efficiencies.
With the BFSI, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors driving growth, the trend also points to a maturing outsourcing ecosystem in which specialized digital, AI, and cloud skills will become highly sought after.
In essence, India’s 2026 hiring landscape reflects a blend of innovation-led recruitment and strategic regionalization, signaling promising prospects for outsourcing partners worldwide.
