Nagaland opens first women-centric BPO center in Northeast India

DIMAPUR, INDIA — Nagaland has launched its first women-centric business process outsourcing (BPO) center, marking a major milestone for women’s employment in Northeast India.
According to a report from The Morning Voice, the Dimapur-based facility, launched on February 18 by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, strives to deliver technology-related jobs for women that will improve their professional abilities and boost their economic independence.
Tech jobs for women expand in India’s BPO sector
The BPO facility will begin with 125 female employees who will work for the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) and the JSW (Jindal South West) Foundation during its first stage.
The facility will provide IT-enabled services which include customer support, data processing and back-office operations.
“This is a new chapter in Nagaland’s journey towards inclusive and technology-driven growth,” Rio said, praising the skills and adaptability of Nagaland’s youth and their potential to compete in the global service economy.
Rio added that opportunities in the structured labor market such as the BPOs support women in strengthening their economic and social contributions.
The development of women-centered BPOs in Nagaland marks the first achievement for the region which follows the lead of other Indian states with women-centered BPO including Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
BPO investments drive India’s inclusive growth
According to the report, IDAN chairman Abu Metha confirmed that nearly ₹60 million (approximately US$730,000) has been invested in the first phase by the JSW Foundation and JSW Shakti.
“The collaboration between IDAN and JSW Foundation reflects a shared vision of empowering women, enhancing skills, and creating meaningful jobs,” Rio added.
The project, which was developed and completed within six months, shows that Nagaland has the ability to draw more investments into its IT-enabled service and knowledge-based industry sectors.
The launch shows an advancing tendency in India’s outsourcing industry which now adapts employment methods that prioritize both inclusivity and employee skill development.
The BPO industry in Nagaland will experience fast growth which will help the state become an employment center that supports women and creates better opportunities for private companies to invest in Northeast India.
The program will develop a workforce that meets future needs through its combination of local talent and international service capabilities as well as its potential to inspire other states to adopt this approach.
By blending technology, women’s empowerment, and investment incentives, Nagaland’s new BPO advances local economic development and sets an example for inclusive growth strategies across emerging outsourcing regions.
