India’s Gorakhpur welcomes STPI center to strengthen tech ecosystem

GORAKHPUR, INDIA — Gorakhpur in India took a major step toward becoming a hub for technology and innovation as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the 71st Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) center in the city’s GIDA area.
According to a report from Swarajya, the new facility is expected to bolster the state’s digital and startup ecosystem while generating employment opportunities in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Modern IT infrastructure to drive startups
The STPI center, developed on 3.5 acres at a cost of Rs 20 crore (US$2.41 million), is part of the state government’s broader push to promote technology-driven entrepreneurship in Tier-2 cities.
Located in Sector-7 of Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), the facility features a 50-seater plug-and-play workspace, 6,000 sq ft of raw and semi-furnished incubation space, a 54-seat auditorium, conference rooms, a cafeteria, and advanced network operations systems.
Officials said the center will support IT, IT-enabled services (ITES), business process outsourcing (BPOs), and startups by offering high-speed internet and robust infrastructure.
The initiative is designed to encourage ventures in software development, data collection, and remote infrastructure management, creating new employment opportunities for local youth.
Government backing and vision for tech growth
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath credited the initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
“Under the visionary leadership of Hon. PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, today Gorakhpur will witness the inauguration of the 71st Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) Centre, marking a key milestone in strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s digital and startup ecosystem,” he said in a post from X.
He further highlighted the facility’s role in advancing technology-driven development.
“Designed to support startups, IT companies, and innovators, this modern facility will accelerate growth, innovation and employment opportunities. I look forward to engaging with innovators and partners shaping India’s digital future,” he said.
“This initiative reflects our vision of making Uttar Pradesh a hub of technology and investment. Jai Hind!” he added.
Tier-2 cities drive India’s IT and outsourcing growth
The Gorakhpur STPI center also reflects a larger trend in India’s outsourcing and IT sectors, where Tier-2 cities are emerging as attractive destinations for IT/ITES growth.
By providing modern infrastructure and incubation support, the facility can help companies scale operations efficiently, while creating a pipeline of skilled talent for BPO, software development, and emerging technology projects.
Such initiatives could reduce pressure on major metro hubs while reinforcing India’s position as a global outsourcing and technology innovation leader.
