Carenet acquires Response BPO to boost global healthcare reach

TEXAS, UNITED STATES — Carenet Health is expanding its global healthcare outsourcing footprint with the acquisition of South Africa-based Response BPO, a move aimed at strengthening its ability to deliver scalable and cost-efficient patient engagement services.
According to a press release, the deal positions the company to better serve payers and providers facing mounting cost pressures, workforce shortages, and rising consumer expectations in healthcare delivery.
Expansion into South Africa’s fast-growing BPO market
The acquisition marks a strategic entry into one of the world’s fastest-growing outsourcing hubs. Carenet said the integration of Response BPO significantly enhances its global delivery capabilities while adding a high-performing operations center in South Africa.
The firm added that the move dramatically expands Carenet’s global footprint, adds a high-performance delivery hub in one of the world’s fastest-growing business process outsourcing (BPO) markets, and significantly strengthens its ability to deliver empathetic, affordable, and clinically excellent care at scale.
South Africa has become increasingly attractive for global service providers due to its English-speaking workforce and lower operational costs.
The country offers access to highly educated talent at roughly 70% lower cost than onshore delivery, making it a competitive destination for healthcare outsourcing operations.
AI-driven healthcare engagement and global integration
Through the deal, Carenet clients gain expanded access to offshore support, while Response clients are integrated into Carenet’s broader technology ecosystem, including its AI-powered Intelligent Engagement platform.
The combined network spans multiple regions, including the United States, Caribbean, Latin America, and the Philippines.
“This is a game-changing win-win for our clients and our teams. Response realizes the advantage of Carenet’s deep clinical roots and industry-leading patient engagement technology. Carenet gains a high-performing, healthcare-focused operation in South Africa that is growing fast and led by truly innovative people who know how to support client needs,” said John Erwin, chief executive officer (CEO) at Carenet.
The deal also strengthens Response’s ability to scale under Carenet’s global infrastructure while maintaining its Durban-based operations as a key delivery hub.
The combined organization is expected to enhance pricing flexibility, expand workforce capacity, and improve service delivery across healthcare markets.
“There are many BPO companies out there, but none as deeply embedded in U.S. healthcare as Carenet,” said Response BPO founder Jiri van Hintum.
He added that the partnership connects both organizations to “a larger healthcare network with incredible clinical capabilities, strong technology investments, additional geographies, and proven impact at scale.”
Strategic outlook for the outsourcing industry
The acquisition reflects a broader shift in the healthcare outsourcing industry, where providers are increasingly blending clinical expertise with AI-driven platforms and geographically diverse delivery models.
As demand grows for more responsive and cost-efficient care solutions, global BPO firms are positioning themselves as essential partners in healthcare transformation rather than just service vendors.
Carenet’s expansion underscores how strategic acquisitions are reshaping the competitive landscape, with scale, technology integration, and workforce geography becoming central to long-term advantage.
