Converge invests in subsea cables to boost Philippine BPO sector

TAGUIG, PHILIPPINES — Converge ICT Solutions Inc. is expanding its subsea cable infrastructure to secure the Philippines’ position as a top global outsourcing destination, with investments spanning a 5,000-kilometer regional cable system and a 20,000-kilometer trans-Pacific link connecting Southeast Asia to North America, Sunstar reports.
Philippine BPO sector demands world-class digital backbone
The expansion comes as Philippine business process outsourcing (BPOs) face mounting pressure to support AI integration, secure data management and permanent hybrid workforces at scale.
Converge Global Business, the company’s corporate and large enterprise unit, recently convened top industry leaders at its BGC headquarters in Taguig City to address those demands.
Jack Madrid, president and CEO of the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), framed the stakes directly.
“As we shift to higher-value services and embrace a more digitally-driven global landscape, our continued growth depends on world-class digital infrastructure,” Madrid said.
“Strategic partnerships with leading technology providers ensure we maintain global competitiveness and continue to elevate Filipino talent on the world stage,” Madrid added.
Industry leaders at the forum identified network redundancy as the top telecom procurement priority, noting that any connectivity interruption directly impacts revenue and international client trust.
Subsea cables extend Philippine connectivity to North America
Converge holds a consortium stake in the SEA-H2X Cable System, a 5,000-kilometer network linking the Philippines to major Asian markets.
Its partnership in the Bifrost Cable System, stretching 20,000 kilometers from Southeast Asia to North America, adds high-capacity, secure connectivity to a critical corridor for the country’s largest BPO clients.
Grace Jarin-Castillo, senior vice president for sales and marketing at Converge Global Business, said the company is building redundancy into every layer of its network.
“We are committed to delivering the robust, diverse, and scalable solutions necessary for this dynamic sector to support its customers, both locally and abroad,” Jarin-Castillo said.
With its fiber network now exceeding 896,000 kilometers, Converge Global Business is positioned to serve the largest BPO operations in the country.
The Philippine IT-BPM sector employs more than 1.7 million workers and generates roughly $35 billion in annual revenue, making it one of the country’s largest foreign exchange earners.
Connectivity infrastructure has emerged as a key differentiator as U.S. and European firms evaluate outsourcing destinations — particularly as AI adoption raises the bandwidth and latency requirements of offshore operations.
Converge’s subsea cable investments signal that the Philippines is actively reinforcing the technical case for continued global outsourcing partnerships.
