Sun Life names Bianca Ilibasic to lead India, Philippines GCC

ONTARIO, CANADA — Sun Life has appointed Bianca Ilibasic as Managing Director of Sun Life Global Solutions (SLGS), the Canadian insurer’s global capability center (GCC) operating across India and the Philippines, effective May 2026.
According to a company press release, Ilibasic steps into the role from her previous position as Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, Sun Life Asia, where she served for four years. SLGS provides technology, operations, analytics, actuarial, human resources, finance, and risk and compliance capabilities supporting Sun Life across 28 markets.
Sun Life moves Asia COO into SLGS leadership
Ilibasic spent four years as Sun Life Asia COO advancing straight-through processing, digital adoption, and a regional artificial intelligence (AI) roadmap before stepping into the SLGS managing director seat.
The appointment gives SLGS a leader whose Asia operational mandate mirrors the transformation work now expected at the GCC level. Moving an executive with a regional COO track record into GCC leadership signals Sun Life views SLGS as a strategic capability platform, not a back-office cost center.
“Over the past four years, Bianca has been a driving force behind operational excellence and digital transformation, leading with clarity, courage, and a deep commitment to our Purpose,” said Laura Money, EVP and Chief Information and Technology Innovation Officer at Sun Life.
Seven-function SLGS role spans India and Philippines
The role spans seven enterprise functions — Technology, Operations, Analytics, Actuarial, HR, Finance, and Risk and Compliance — across India and Philippines delivery sites.
That breadth positions SLGS as an enterprise capability platform supporting Sun Life operations across 28 global markets. SLGS’s multi-function, dual-country model makes the managing director role equivalent in scope to running a global shared services division.
“Sun Life Global Solutions is more than a capability center — excellence, innovation, and dedication are consistently demonstrated via brilliant, passionate teams across India and the Philippines who support our Purpose and our Clients every single day,” said Bianca Ilibasic, Managing Director of Sun Life Global Solutions.
Sun Life’s SLGS appointment reflects a broader evolution in how insurance and financial services multinationals structure GCC leadership, drawing executives from business operations rather than IT or shared services management.
Manulife, Prudential, and AXA have each expanded India and Philippines GCC operations in recent years, with leadership increasingly evaluated on commercial and transformation delivery rather than cost efficiency and headcount.
The Philippines and India represent the two largest offshore markets for insurance sector GCC employment, anchored by deep actuarial, analytics, and finance talent pipelines that support regulatory-grade work across global markets. For Sun Life, SLGS’s 28-market reach means Ilibasic’s mandate is global in impact from day one.
